Back to school.

8.22.2012

Fall semester started on Monday, and it is hopefully my final fall semester as an undergraduate! I never thought I would have made it this far. Classes have been in session for three days now, and I am already exhausted. How is that even possible?

For a majority of my college career, I have taken online or night classes. This semester, I have Spanish 101 every single morning. At 9am. Every. Single. Morning. I have never really experienced being on a college campus daily. So this week, I was surprised to actual start feeling like a college student. Which is odd, since I am a super senior in my fifth year of classes. But actually being on campus and around other students, going to the library, actively participating...it has changed college from being an idea to a reality.

As a young mom, I never really thought I could have the "college experience". That just wasn't in the cards for me. I knew that my focus would be on raising, loving, and providing for my child. Though education had it's importance, it never came first.

Now my son is four and considers himself a "big boy". He is independent, loving, silly, and everything that I hoped he would be. He started preschool last week, so he definitely thinks he is hot stuff going to "school" every day. This has left me with a large gap of time that I never imagined having. And all of a sudden, I am able to have the college experience. I have more time for school. (Maybe too much time, considering I literally spent my first two days on campus just soaking it all up.) I have time for extra things.

And you can bet I am making the most of it!

  1. Congrats! How much longer until you finish your degree? I have English from 8:15 - 9:55 T/Th. I hope all goes well.

  2. Congrats on your last semester of undergrad! The great thing about your son being four is that he will be able to see & (most likely) remember you crossing the stage. It will show him the importance in going to college and graduating. Anyway, good luck this semester! I still have another two years left *runs off crying*
